Anthropic has launched Claude Frontier Academy with a $100 million commitment and a goal of training 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers by the end of 2027. Its first program asks employers to nominate engineers who already have a named Claude project to lead at work.
The October 2 announcement frames the program as a response to a shortage of people who can put AI into use inside businesses. Anthropic says a small group of skilled employees drives much of the value its enterprise customers get from AI. The Academy aims to develop more engineers with that capability.
What engineers will do
The Frontier Deployed Engineer Residency starts with several days of in-person training alongside Anthropic engineers and licensed instructors. Participants work through a simulated enterprise deployment, including use-case selection, security review and handover. A graded practical exercise then tests them on a new scenario.
Engineers who pass earn a Claude Resident Engineer badge and enter a 12-week residency. During that period, they lead a real Claude project at their own organization, with support from Anthropic engineers and their cohort. A second assessment determines whether they earn the Claude Frontier Deployed Engineer badge. Anthropic expects the first recipients in early 2027.
The program seeks software engineers with strong fundamentals, experience building with large language models and a record of helping colleagues adopt AI. Previous experience building AI agents is optional.
Cohorts are already running in San Francisco, New York and London. Participation is by nomination. Organizations can ask their Anthropic account team or Partner Account Manager about eligibility.
Training tied to enterprise adoption
The initial cohorts include engineers from Accenture, Bain, Capgemini, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Deloitte, McKinsey, Morgan Stanley and Novo Nordisk. That puts consulting firms alongside companies that will use the training within their own businesses.
Anthropic says the Academy builds on its Claude Partner Network. Professionals across 46,000 firms have earned more than 175,000 Claude certifications, according to the announcement. Nearly 4,000 people have completed Basecamp, which teaches the curriculum Anthropic uses when its Applied AI teams join the company.
The residency adds a workplace project and two assessments to that training effort. Because each participant arrives with a Claude project, the program also gives Anthropic a direct route to more deployments within customers and partners. Consulting firms can apply that experience in their client work.
