Anthropic expanded Claude for Startups on October 6, offering qualifying companies a free year of Claude Team and $1,000 in API credits. TechCrunch reports that the expansion launched during SF Tech Week. Anthropic’s program page adds limits that matter before a founder applies.
Who qualifies and what expires
The Claude for Startups page accepts applications from companies founded in the past five years or funded in the past two. Bootstrapped companies can apply. Applicants need a Claude Console account, a company email matching their website’s domain and a short description of their product. Anthropic reviews applications and requires compliance with its supportability policies.
The free Team year covers up to five Premium seats, only for organizations new to Claude Team. API credits expire six months after Anthropic grants them. They work on the first-party Claude API through Claude Console, excluding AWS Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI and other third-party platforms.
Members also get higher API rate limits, Applied AI office hours and access to startup events. Anthropic advertises up to $45,000 in partner offers, supplied by independent companies. Startups backed by a venture firm in Anthropic’s partner network can claim up to $100,000 in additional API credits through that firm.
A bid to win the builder’s choice
The offer pays for employees to use Claude and for developers to test it in a product. That combination gives Anthropic a way to compete for a startup’s model choice before the startup commits to a paid deployment. This is our assessment of the offer’s design. The sources provide no results showing how often recipients choose Claude afterward.
