Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella pitched Copilot as the “OS for work” at an invite-only event for key enterprise customers in late September, according to Tom Warren’s October 1 report in The Verge. The plan puts Office editing, coding and agents inside the assistant.
Office inside the assistant
Microsoft has been combining its consumer and business Copilot interfaces. Warren describes separate tabs for chat, coding and the Autopilot agent. Users will be able to create and edit Office files within Copilot through an interface with the familiar ribbon, rather than switch to Word or PowerPoint.
Warren also reports that Microsoft’s Scout desktop agent has entered maintenance mode as the company focuses on a cloud version renamed Autopilot. Those details come from his sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans.
Control is part of the pitch
Nadella stressed organizational control and protecting company knowledge. Copilot chief Jacob Andreou acknowledged that the autonomy agents need makes enterprise adoption difficult. The report positions Microsoft’s business focus against rivals including OpenAI, but leaves rollout dates and the specific controls behind the pitch unresolved.
