Nvidia-backed GPU cloud provider Lambda is raising up to $4 billion at a $14.5 billion pre-money valuation ahead of a planned 2027 IPO, according to TechCrunch’s October 6 report, which cites The Wall Street Journal. Coatue Management and Blackstone are leading the proposed round.
The scale of the financing shows how much capital companies that supply AI computing capacity are seeking before going public. TechCrunch also reports that Lambda raised another $1 billion in debt the previous week to help fund data center expansion.
One customer accounts for the reported backlog jump
A letter to investors reviewed by the Journal put Lambda’s backlog at $15 billion in June and $50 billion in September. TechCrunch links much of that increase to Anthropic’s $35 billion commitment under a deal signed in late August.
That gives the funding story a customer concentration question. Lambda needs capital to supply the computing capacity it has promised, while much of the reported demand depends on one AI lab’s ability to pay. TechCrunch says Lambda, Coatue and Blackstone had not responded to its requests for comment when it published.
