OpenAI is adding reusable cloud development environments to Codex, along with voice controls in its command-line interface, a desktop code review experience and a repository security product. TechCrunch reports that the September 29 DevDay update makes remote work more persistent and configurable than Codex’s earlier cloud tasks.
A shared setup across devices
The cloud environments let developers use Codex from a computer or remotely from a phone. OpenAI says reusable setups help tasks start faster and let teams share approved settings and permissions.
The refreshed CLI lets developers start and direct tasks by voice. Its new /agents view helps users delegate work and track concurrent tasks. OpenAI also reports changes to prompt editing, session resumption, worktrees and the terminal interface for longer sessions.
Review changes and scan repositories
In the ChatGPT desktop app, developers can inspect change summaries and diffs, then ask Codex about potential issues before sending feedback to GitHub pull requests or GitLab merge requests. Automatic reviews can run a first pass in the cloud while the developer is away.
Codex Security Cloud scans entire GitHub repositories on demand, on a schedule or as new commits arrive. It investigates findings, removes duplicates and prepares fixes remotely, including while the developer’s laptop is closed. It also gives users access to models offered through Daybreak Blue without a separate application to that cybersecurity program.
Access differs across the products. OpenAI’s DevDay recap lists cloud environments for Plus, Pro, Business, Healthcare, Education and Enterprise. It lists the CLI and code review updates for all plans. Security Cloud is available to Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users on desktop and web.
