Suno has opened Speech, a public beta that generates spoken audio and optional background music together. The feature expands its music service into voiceovers on the web and mobile, according to The Verge. Users can describe what they want to hear or supply a script.
In its October 1 announcement, Suno says it opened the beta to everyone after a month of testing with a small group. The company describes uses such as scored readings, meditations and bedtime stories.
A prompt or a supplied script
The Verge reports that Speech sits under the Create tab. Simple mode takes a description of the desired audio. Advanced mode accepts a custom script and offers controls for voice gender, speech style and the amount of variation between generations.
A toggle turns background music off for users who want speech alone. The reported maximum duration is around eight minutes.
Suno acknowledges uneven results. Its chief product officer, Jack Brody, says accents can drift between British and Australian, and dramatic pauses can become excessive. The company says user feedback will guide improvements.
