Google is testing a Gemini feature that calls local businesses on a user’s behalf. A Pixel 11 owner can ask Gemini to make a reservation, check whether an item is in stock, or move an appointment. Gemini places the call from the user’s phone number, identifies itself, navigates menus, waits on hold, and talks to the business.
The user can watch a live transcript and take over the call. Google says Gemini can share personal details that the user approves for the task. That makes the feature more useful for bookings than an automated stock inquiry, but it also makes the user’s review of those details consequential.
Access starts with a narrow group
The early preview starts in the United States for Pixel 11 owners who have a paid Gemini subscription and are enrolled in the Phone by Google public beta. Google says it is starting small because live conversations vary, so this is not yet a general Gemini calling feature.
Google already offers tools that wait on hold or ask businesses about prices and availability. This experiment goes further by handling a conversation that may require personal information and a change to a booking. The live transcript and takeover control give the owner a way to intervene while the call is underway.
