Meta’s Muse recorded 1.8 million iOS downloads in the United States and Canada during its first 12 days. ChatGPT recorded 1.3 million under the same limits after its mobile debut, according to estimates from Apptopia reported by TechCrunch.
That puts Muse about 38% ahead in the comparison designed to remove the largest launch difference. ChatGPT launched its mobile app globally on iOS, while Muse launched on both iOS and Android in the United States and Canada.
Muse also leads on daily use
Apptopia estimates that Muse reached 642,000 daily active mobile users in the United States after 12 days. ChatGPT had 231,000 at the equivalent point in its mobile launch.
The total-user comparison favors Muse because it includes Android, which ChatGPT did not offer at launch. The iOS-only figure narrows that gap. Muse had 359,000 daily active iOS users in the United States, about 55% more than ChatGPT’s 231,000.
Muse had 2.8 million total installs during its first 12 days and moved from second to first in the overall U.S. App Store ranking. These are third-party estimates. Meta has not released its own launch figures.
Meta starts with an existing audience
More than 95% of Muse users also use Facebook, according to Apptopia, and 63% also use Instagram. Muse can connect with both services and works inside WhatsApp.
Those overlaps give Meta several places to introduce the assistant to people who already use its products. Meta used cross-promotion and integrations when it launched Threads, which TechCrunch reports now has more than 500 million users.
Apptopia cannot see Meta’s ads or cross-promotion directly. The overlap therefore shows that Muse is reaching Meta’s existing audience, but it does not say how many downloads came from a promotion in Facebook, Instagram, or WhatsApp.
