Shopify opens its catalog to more AI shopping agents

Shopify says more AI agents can access over a billion product listings through Shop. Buyers can set shopping rules and must approve each purchase.

Shopify says more AI agents will soon be able to browse and buy from its catalog of over a billion product listings. Shoppers connect an agent to their Shop account, set shopping instructions and approve each purchase, The Verge reports.

The October 13 announcement expands a route Shopify introduced with Meta’s Muse agent in September. According to the report, shoppers can now use agents without a partnership integration. Shopify’s catalog includes products sold both on and off Shopify storefronts.

Shop connects the conversation to checkout

Shopify describes the tool as a personal shopper. A user can give the agent a budget or ask it to show only products with fast shipping. The purchase uses Shop Pay inside the conversation, and the order goes back to the Shop app, which tracks orders and packages.

Buyer approval remains part of every transaction. The agent can help find and purchase an item, but the reported flow still requires the shopper to authorize that specific order.

The expansion adds to the shopping-agent developments we have covered through TikTok’s Shopping Assistant, ChatGPT’s shopping tools and Amex’s purchase-approval framework. Here, Shopify is widening which agents can reach its catalog and checkout through a shopper’s account.
