ChatGPT is adding virtual clothing try-on and a Favorites library for saved products. OpenAI announced the shopping updates on October 1, according to TechCrunch. Together, they give shoppers a way to preview an outfit on their own photo and return to items they considered earlier.
Preview clothes and save the shortlist
A Try On button in shopping results lets users upload a selfie or full-body photo to see how clothing or accessories might look on them. Users can also upload a product image, such as a screenshot, and ask ChatGPT to try it on.
Favorites saves products in the app’s Library for later reference. TechCrunch reports that saved items sit alongside try-on images. A shopper can also describe a style and ask ChatGPT to find the pieces, or upload a celebrity outfit photo and ask for items available to buy.
TechCrunch says the updates use ChatGPT Images 2.5. OpenAI claims the model produces more natural lighting and richer textures, follows editing instructions more reliably and generates images faster. Those are the company’s claims about image quality and speed.
The additions put more of the browsing process inside ChatGPT. TechCrunch places that move alongside an earlier instant-checkout effort that performed poorly, and notes that Google launched virtual try-on last year. The new tools focus on choosing and keeping products before a purchase.
What the preview can tell you
OpenAI’s shopping help page says the tools are available on mobile and web. It also warns that generated try-on images may differ from the product or the user’s appearance and do not guarantee fit or size.
OpenAI saves reference photos for future try-ons. Users can replace or delete them in Settings, under Personalization, then Reference photos.
