Gemini Call for Me may expand to calls to friends and family

A reported APK teardown points to short personal calls through Gemini. The expansion and new app permissions remain unconfirmed.

Google may expand Gemini’s Call for Me beyond business calls to friends and family. The Verge reports that Android Authority found an introductory screen labeled “Gemini Calling” in an APK teardown, an inspection of an Android app package. The expansion remains unconfirmed.

The reported examples involve telling a mother that the caller will be 15 minutes late and asking John whether he is coming for dinner. They suggest brief messages or questions. The Verge interprets them as closer to text messages delivered by phone than a full conversation with a relative.

This would extend the business-calling use described in our earlier coverage. A personal call could reach someone who misses texts or uses a landline, The Verge notes.

App permissions are another reported change

The Verge also says Android Authority found controls for individual app capabilities, including apparent phone-call permissions. The report raises the possibility of opting out of incoming automated Gemini calls. Both the calling expansion and the permission settings may never reach a public release.
